These heart charms are adorable and can be given to someone to show how much you appreciate them!
You will need:
- 1/2 Cup flour
- 1/4 Cup Salt
- Some cold water
- Nail varnish/Paint
- Rolling Pin
- Cling Film
- Craft Knife
- Round cookie cutter
Before you start preheat your oven to 150°C/302°F.
The charms themselves are made out of salt dough, which is really simple to make! All you need to do is measure out your salt and flour then mix them together in a bowl whilst slowly adding water – continue to mix and add water until you have a play dough like consistency.
Once you have achieved this place a sheet of cling film over your work surface and tape it down to avoid creating a mess and having the dough stuck to the surface. Next grab your rolling pin and roll out the dough until it’s about a centimetre thick; you can vary the thickness of the dough using your own judgement if you would prefer. Then using your cookie cutter cut out a circle of dough – put the rest of the dough to one side and cut out a heart shape from the middle of the circle using your craft knife.
Repeat the above steps for the amount of charms you want to make, then place them in the oven for a few hours. The time needed will vary depending on a multitude of factors so your best judgement is required. I left mine for about two hours.
Once they are hard take them out the oven and leave them to cool. (Whilst waiting you could wash up from the salt dough, yay!). Now it’s the fun part; take your nail varnishes or paint and choose your colors. I chose pink because that’s the color I associate with love but you can be as creative as you like then simply paint your charms with a few thin layers until they are opaque. As soon as they have dried you are ready to give them to the people you care about. Me and my friend even swapped so that I have the heart that fits inside her circle and she has the heart that fits inside mine.
Who would you give yours to? x
